Olympia Stadium Lives On: A Limited-Edition Charm Celebrating 100 Years of Hockeytown

Detroit hockey didn’t become legendary by accident. It was built—season after season—by the fans, the city, and the arenas that held the noise.

Before Joe Louis. Before Little Caesars Arena.
There was Olympia Stadium.

To celebrate 100 years of Hockeytown, Rebel Nell is releasing a limited-edition Olympia Stadium collaboration charm made with repurposed brick from the original Olympia—a piece of Detroit history, reimagined as wearable art.

And when we say limited, we mean it: fewer than 50 charms total across sterling silver and 18K gold-plated sterling silver.
Public drop: February 26.

The history of Olympia Stadium: Detroit’s “Old Red Barn”

Olympia Stadium—also known as Detroit Olympia—opened in 1927 and earned the nickname “The Old Red Barn.”

It was best known as the longtime home of the Detroit Red Wings, who played there from 1927 to 1979—more than five decades of Hockeytown tradition inside those red brick walls.

Olympia wasn’t just a building. It was a Detroit gathering place. The Detroit Historical Society notes it hosted not only Red Wings hockey, but also other major sports and marquee events—proof that Olympia was a true city stage.

Designed by famed architect C. Howard Crane, Olympia was built for big crowds and bigger moments. And after nearly 60 years of standing watch over Detroit fandom, Olympia was demolished in 1986—but its place in Detroit history never disappeared.

Why a brick matters

A brick is more than material—it’s proof of place.

It’s the kind of object that carries time: the footsteps, the chants, the winter breath, the “same seat every game” routines, the generations of fans who learned what loyalty looks like in Detroit.

That’s why this charm matters. It takes something that once anchored a legendary arena and turns it into a keepsake you can wear—quietly iconic, unmistakably Detroit.

Building your charm collection, Detroit-style

Charm jewelry is the ultimate “story you can wear.” Each piece becomes a marker—of a place you love, a season you survived, a team you’ll always ride for. And the best charm collections aren’t built overnight; they grow one meaningful addition at a time.

That’s why Rebel Nell charms are designed to be as flexible as your style. Every charm includes a clasp, so you can clip it onto a necklace, a bracelet, or even a pair of earrings—switch it up for game day, dress it up for a night out, or keep it simple for everyday.

If you’re building your charm lineup, there’s no better way than with an exclusive Rebel Nell charm rooted in Detroit history. The Olympia Stadium charm isn’t just cute—it’s repurposed brick from a legendary arena, transformed into a collectible you can layer, stack, and wear on repeat. One charm, a hundred years of Hockeytown energy, and a story that only Detroit could write.

A charm that celebrates 100 years of Hockeytown

The Red Wings have officially launched their Centennial celebration, marking 100 years since the team’s founding in 1926, with the 2025–26 season kicking off the milestone year.

This charm is our love letter to that century of Detroit hockey—especially the places that shaped it. Olympia is where the Red Wings built decades of history, long before the next chapters of Detroit hockey were written elsewhere.

If Hockeytown is part of who you are, this is a way to carry a piece of where it all echoed first.

Limited edition details
