The One Where Rebel Nell Opens a Retail Store
It’s finally here! After 6 years in business, Rebel Nell is so excited to announce we are finally opening a retail store right here in Detroit with our lovely friends at York Project. Our team has spent the past 2 months getting cozy in our blooming neighborhood, near New Center. But while we’ve been adjusting to our new location, we’ve also been cooking up plans and working tirelessly to prepare a retail storefront that will be open for the community 6 days a week.
Operating our business in Detroit has always meant a lot to us. This city is gritty, beautiful, and the place we call home. It is full of people doing things both big and small to help it grow and evolve. We see a gap in Detroit’s retail space that we are excited to fill: a store that allows you to not only watch your products being handmade, but allows you to make an impact on the local community with every single purchase. Every shopper will contribute a small piece that ultimately makes a big difference in the lives of the women employed by Rebel Nell and the folks that York Project supports.
York Project is another Detroit social enterprise that creates social streetwear. Each purchase provides living essentials to those experiencing homelessness in our community. They exist to create jobs and opportunities that may not otherwise exist. We couldn’t be more stoked to take on this joint venture with them, and open a shop that does good for Detroit. Furthermore, our retail store will be used to help our incredible Creative Designers develop customer service and digital literacy skills. The store will offer our full product lineup, including new jewelry featuring fallen graffiti from the Michigan Central Station. The official launch party is Thursday, August 22 from 6-9pm. There will be food, drinks, music, and plenty of products to shop and feel good about. After Thursday, find us open Monday-Friday from 10-6 and Saturdays from 10-3. See you there!
